Aim and Future Planning
The overall strategic plan is to be a Digital Library. The MINDEF LIbrary faces many shortcomings which cannot be addressed collectively hence it requires a systematic planning in stages to achieve its vision and mission.
Short-term Strategies
The short-term strategies to be a Digital Library are as follows:
Enhance the MINDEF Library’s ability to access information from local and remote data bases through information technology so that the users can enjoy the concepts of shared information sources.
Upgrade MINDEF Library facilities and technological applications so that the library presents itself as an appropriate, attractive and conducive environment for learning.
Integrate co-located branch MINDEF libraries in particular Armed Forces camps into a Base Library such as in Terendak Camp, Mahkota Camp and others.
Establish a rule obligating all publishers of Armed Forces materials to send at least three (3) copies of their publications to be archieved in MINDEF Library so as to archive the objective of MINDEF Library being the centre of Excellence for Armed Forces military collections and materials.
Upgrade the library staff skills in computer and information technology so as to better manage the library service.
Establish a network with the National Library, Academic Libraries and Specialised Libraries in the country so that inter-library loan system can be implemented effectively.
